Family Law

Andrew Corish is a partner in the firm and the head of the Family Law section at Staunton & Thompson. Andrew has been a family lawyer for 21 years and an accredited specialist in family law since 1994 and practices exclusively in the area of family law and domestic disputes.

Andrew says:

“I welcome initial telephone enquires from potential clients. I am happy to give initial telephone advice free of charge, and give some advice and guidance. Similarly I am happy to answer initial requests for information by email or letter without obligation..

For those who wish to make an appointment to see me, I provide a further free 30 minute initial attendance. At the first attendance, I take a detailed statement of relevant matters and provide preliminary advice in writing. In this way, clients can obtain the information they need to make informed choices of how they can best help themselves and make the right decisions for the benefit of themselves and, if applicable, for their children.

My role as a family lawyer is to help whoever consults me to the best of my ability and to put the client’s best interests as the prime objective in everything I do. As a lawyer I am bound to follow the client’s instructions without being judgemental. I am mindful that apparently broken marriage can be reconciled. If not, I know that most people are seeking a resolution of matters in dispute with a minimum of expense and pain, and I do my best to put their wishes into effect.

It is my policy to discourage court proceedings and to seek a resolution of family disputes at an early stage and outside the court system, particularly where there are children involved. I assist clients by referring them to appropriate mediation services and counsellors and look for other innovative means of dispute resolution.

At times it is advantageous or essential to issue or defend court proceedings, in order to avoid injustice. However court proceedings should always be a means to the resolution of the matter and not an end in themselves. If the matter does proceed to a hearing, I assist clients present their cases in court in the best way possible, including by assisting clients to represent themselves if they wish.

I make myself available to deal with clients personally, by returning telephone calls and responding to correspondence promptly. I am happy to receive calls out of business hours if necessary, particularly if a crisis arises.

Our family law team looks forward to be of service to you.”
